I was wearing my knit blanket cardigan one day when my mom was visiting. She fell in love with it, and asked me to make her a blanket cardigan to add to her wardrobe. It’s no surprise that we both love to be wrapped up in a blanket in all seasons, like mother like daughter. So I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to create a crochet blanket pattern to share here on the blog! I had a lot of Knit Picks Swish Worsted yarn, and some others in my stash that I was happy to use up.

I came up with the design on the fly, and it’s definitely become one of my favorite pieces. I need to make myself one now… pics coming soon! The crochet blanket cardigan is crocheted in two panels, then seamed together at the back. It drapes over the shoulder like a flowy ruana, while wrapping you up like a blanket! It is great for summer nights, or fall days over a long sleeve tee for an effortlessly chic look.

Please advise if this pattern has been updated. The instructions are vague. The two panels are not the same length. I’m confused. I really want to make this, however, before I invest in this amount of yarn, I need some clarification. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Hi Val,
For each panel you chain 201 sts. so they will be the same length. Can you be more specific when you say the instructions are vague? What part are you needing clarification about? Thanks! -Margo
Can you make a shorter version?
Hi! Yes you can, just don’t knit as many rows.
Hi, I was a bit confused on the second panel, when you said repeat row 4, do you mean the actual 4th row or step 4?
Hi Ester, you repeat the actual row 4
Wouldn’t that make it narrower? I haven’t started yet, but I was picturing knitting this garment sideways.
The second panel uses some single crochet stitches, so it all evens out.
